Moths: what the fuck?
wtf is that a parasite?
my barely educated guess would be that it has to do with breeding somehow. but i don’t know for sure.
fisk, do you have info?
considering its a part of the body i doubt its a parasite
im not too keen on insect anatomy, sadly, but i’d be willing to say it’s got something to do with breeding as well— pheromone-related organs, or maybe the penis itself? i dunno. it’s not an ovipositor as far as i can tell. the smaller ones seem to be male claspers, used to hold a female during sex, so… it’s probably a dick. but i can’t be sure, obviously, it’d probably be better to go to someone with more focus on insects than me
Neo, need your expertise on this one. Doesn’t look legit to me, but this is your forte…
I’m not an expert on insect genitalia, but i looked up some images and slides of this genus (I’m p sure this is a leopard moth of some kind) and those do indeed look like sex organs. Parasites wouldn’t look like that. It’s definitely not an ovipositior, so it’s gotta be a male moth.
That’s the extent of my worth here, I have no idea how these parts are put into use when mating.
(If y’all REALLY want to know, I’ll ask my boss tomorrow and get back to you. He did his thesis on insect genitals)
I do not actuallyknow if this is what’s going on here, but, I know that sometimes the only way to identify some species of insects is via the penis and one way to get the penis to evert from their body to put alcohol in their bodies after death. The alcohol expands their body and fill their tissues which forces the genitals out. So, that is my best guess about what’s happening here.
He’s becoming self-aware…Disney’s gonna have to handle that.
Remember the last time a Disney character became aware?
And he was never seen again.
you may have a hot body but i have a hot bucket of fried chicken so whos the real winner here
